Welcome to my Home. Grab a brew. Don't cost nothin'.

Retired

August 3, 2012
With that last Olympic final race, I'm hanging up my rowing hat. Back in 2000 when I walked onto the campus at Michigan State and stumbled upon the sport of rowing I never thought it would lead me here to my second Olympic games. I'm coming out of this with incredible friendships and unforgettable experiences, not to mention a soon-to-be wife, that are going to make the rest of my life a joy to live. Thanks to everyone that has cheered, pushed, fought against, supported, and guided me during this endeavor of mine.
...now someone get me a beer.

Hello Olympics

July 21, 2012
We just arrived in London yesterday after taking the redeye from Newark to Heathrow. We stepped off the plane, got our credentials and our bags, hopped on a bus and were taken immediately to team processing. At processing we got about 200 pounds of gear and clothing all from Nike and Ralph Lauren. In addition, we were sized for commemorative rings, watches, and the opening and closing ceremony garb.

After about 3 1/2 hours of that (it takes a long time to try on all those clothes!) we got back on the bus and drove a couple more hours to the Rowing Olympic village, our home away from home while we're competing. It felt great to finally take a shower and hit up the dining hall. I slept like a baby last night and woke up this morning for our first trip to the course where we took our new Hudson boat for a spin. The row was great and the boat feels good. Two big plusses after a long trip.

I've got a photo album set up that I'll keep adding to as the days progress here. It's one week out until our first race. I'm excited, really excited.

Qualified!

May 28, 2012
I've just returned from competing in the USA M8+ at the Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland where we won our race against France and New Zealand. We've officially qualified and we'll be heading to London for the Olympic Games! Two months from today I'll be lining up to race the heats on Dorney Lake. Until then...back to work.

30

March 24, 2012
Old Balls! Turning 30 is pretty sweet. For those of you who haven't yet, I highly recommend it. It is so choice. Ashleigh came up to the bay area to help me celebrate. In between mornings of racing on the water I was spoiled with homemade chocolate chip cookies, presents, and intimate dinners. We also managed to find time to drive out to the Golden Gate bridge to see the sights. It was a nice respite from thinking about rowing all the time. Speaking of which, just over one month until the M8+ is named.
